Hope everyone had a great holiday!
Language
Over the past two weeks we have started looking at the EQAO. The students are learning how to read and understand a question that is being asked by using their knowledge of the subject area and their understanding of the English Language. In the writing portion they are learning how to be precise and to use proof from the reading passage to help with their answer.
Next week the focus will be on persuasive writing. The students will learn important transitional words to use in this type of writing.
Math
The students are doing a variety of activities that allows them to practice their measurement skills. We have been looking at mm, cm,m and km. Another concept they have been looking at is perimeter and area. Next week we will be using geoboards to practice these concepts.
Social Studies
Our next unit will be Heritage and Identity: Communities in Canada 1780 -1850.
Some of the concepts we will look at:
Similarities and differences between different communities in that time - example between the Metis and First Nations.
The main factors that helped shape the development of settlements in Canada during this period.
Aspects of life in selected communities
Reminder that homework is due on Tuesday’s. I have not received a lot of homework sheets since the holidays.
Please remind your child of the importance of dressing properly for recess when it is cold.
Book order is due Tuesday January 24, 2017.
