Language
This week’s focus in Language has been persuasive writing. The students are doing a great job at applying their skills to write fantastic paragraphs. Next week, we will be focusing on compare and contrast writing and nonfiction books. Another focus we will be continuing is learning what type and how much information to place in a paragraph to allow your reader to understand the paragraph
We continue to practice our skills for the EQAO. The students are learning strategies they can apply when completing the EQAO.
Various activities are being used to help students apply strategies to help them understand what they are reading (example: background knowledge, asking questions, inferencing, visualizing, connections).
Math
This is the last week we are focusing on 2D shapes and Angles. The students have had a good time using geoboards to create congruent shapes and explore angles that are less than, greater than or exactly 90 degrees.
They are on their final assignment where they have to create an Alien shape using a set of instructions given to them. They are applying their knowledge of 2D shapes and measurement to create shapey.
Next week we are moving onto 3D geometry. The students will be using their knowledge of 2D shapes to identify types and how many 2D shapes make up different 3D shapes.
Social Studies
Students continue to investigate what life was like for First Nations and Settlers through centres. We will further our study by looking at challenges they faced, comparing life now to then and why people settled near waterways.
Reminder that the information for their pioneer project is Due on Monday. Please send in what your child has completed even if they have not completed all the sections. I will give them time in class to complete the research before the final assignment.
With the warmer and wetter weather here it is recommended that you send in extra clothing (especially socks).
