The students are doing a great job with writing their persuasive paragraphs. This will continue to be a focus for the next week or so.
The next type of writing we will be looking at is report writing. The students are going to learn how to compare and contrast two different things. Their final evaluation for this will be writing a report that compares and contrasts two different groups that lived in Canada between 1780 and 1850.
For reading we will be looking at features of nonfiction books - titles, table of contents, pictures, diagrams, labels, glossary.
Math
The focus continues to be on 2D and 3D geometry and we will be continuing these concepts for the next few weeks. A handout will be coming home explaining parallelograms. Please let me know if your child does not come home with one
Social Studies
We continue our studies on groups and communities that lived in Canada between 1780 and 1850.
A research assignment went home this week outlining the expectations of the culminating task. If you could have your child do the research at home, it would help with the writing of the report in class. The students will be taking their knowledge of report writing and features of non-fiction books to create a book about life in Canada between 1780 and 1850.
Please let me know if your child did not come home with this outline. Research information is due February 27, 2017.
Thank you to all that contributed towards our friendship party. The students enjoyed tasting all the different kinds of food!
Reminder - Helmets on Tuesday for sledding. Please make sure it is a hockey or skating helmet.
